'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' new features: Will players still be able to control all characters during battles?

The "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is going to give fans a different kind of combat system, and it may feature one particular change that significantly affects just how much control players have over battles.

As fans likely know already, the remake will be introducing a more fast-paced system that does away with the turn-based principles of the original game.

Director Tetsuya Nomura talked briefly about the new combat system during an earlier interview with Dengeki PlayStation – a translation of which was provided by KH13 – and he mentioned the new approach that the developers have decided to take when it comes to battles.

Nomura talked about the new system being more "action-heavy," but what exactly could this mean for the remake?

Most action games typically allow players to roam across the battlefield, enabling them to utilize specific movements to gain an advantage in combat.

Notably, most action games also allow players to take control of only one character at a time, which could be something to keep in mind when it comes to the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake."

The original "Final Fantasy 7" game allowed players to input commands for all three characters that were currently in battle, but there's a chance that the remake may have to ask players to cede some control in order to fully realize the new "action-heavy" system.

A previously released trailer for the remake may have hinted at this already, as it seemed to show that players could only alternate between Barrett and Cloud while in battle.

A combat system that does away with the party-based mechanics of the original game would certainly be a significant shift, though whether or not this really will end up being the direction the developers take remains to be seen at this point.

More details about the new combat system set to be featured by the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" should be made available soon.
