'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release date update: Next development update may not be shared until next year

The folks over at Square Enix already have their hands full for the rest of this year when it comes to "Final Fantasy" titles, with "World of Final Fantasy" already here and "Final Fantasy 15" coming next month. But where does that leave fans who are most excited about the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake?"

(Square Enix)Fans may have to wait until next year to learn more about the 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake'

Unfortunately, Square Enix's full slate could mean that the remake won't become a focal point for the developers for at least the remainder of this year, a sentiment seemingly hinted at just recently by director Tetsuya Nomura.

During an earlier interview with Dengeki PlayStation – a translation of which was provided by KH13 – Nomura was asked about the remake and the director took the time to talk about the revamped battle system.

It was then pointed out to Nomura that 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of "Final Fantasy 7," to which he first indicated that he would like to plan something to mark the occasion before admitting that he may not be able to share any more details "until after things calm down."

So, the question now becomes, when can fans expect "things to calm down" and for more "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" details to be shared?

With "Final Fantasy 15" due out in late November, it's likely that the folks over at Square Enix will be trying to do all they can to get fans focused on that title, so that may not be the period of calm that Nomura is looking for.

At this point, it certainly seems as though it would be more reasonable to expect Square Enix to talk more about the remake next year when their plate isn't quite as full and things may be calmer.

That may not be what people want to hear, but if Square Enix can deliver the goods the next time they opt to talk more about the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," then fans may be more accepting of the long wait.
