Last month, various sources reported that Square Enix is hoping to increase the PlayStation 4 sales when they announced the upcoming "Final Fantasy VII" remake. However, recently, it seems like there has been a slight change of plans as latest news suggests that the developers are also planning to make a version for the Xbox One.

While speaking to Engadget last month, game producer Tetsuya Nomura explained why they chose E3 as their venue to announce the remake. He said, "Why now? This week at E3 we announced several titles coming to the PS4: not only FFXV, Kingdom Hearts 3, and World of Final Fantasy, but [also] a new Star Ocean and more. Rather than announce the remake after those titles went on sale, we wanted to give gamers something that would make them happy – open them up, perhaps, to buying into the PS4."

It actually makes sense since the original game was first released on the Sony PlayStation 1 or PSX and it comes as no surprise that Square Enix would want to give Sony a little help with the sales.

But aside from giving Sony a little help, other news suggest that the remake is also coming to Sony's PlayStation 4 competition, Microsoft Xbox One.

Franchise Herald reported that a placeholder post on EB Games Australia for the "Final Fantasy VII" remake has emerged. It says there that the game is listed for pre-order for the Xbox One platform and has a "TBC 2016" release date with a price tag of $109.95.

According to a dedicated fan who asked EB Games about the posting (via Twinfinite), it seems like Square Enix is also indeed going to release the remake for the Xbox One, although the PlayStation 4 will have early access. In their message, EB Games Australia confidently said that "they announced for both consoles, however PS4 will have early access."

There is still no official announcement from Square Enix if they are really going to port the "Final Fantasy VII" remake for the Microsoft Xbox One but one thing for sure is that the game will definitely come to the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, developers have yet to announce the actual release date of the highly anticipated game.
