"Finding Nemo," released in 2003, told the heartwarming tale of a clownfish, Marlin, looking for his son, Nemo. The movie gained critical success and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Animated feature. To date, "Finding Nemo" is the 5th highest grossing animated movie of all time.

Due to the massive success of the film, many expected that a sequel would eventually be released. However, years passed without any official announcements.

No one was more vocal about wanting a sequel than Ellen Degeneres, the comedienne who voiced the character Dory. Degeneres had made numerous mentions of her desire for a sequel on her talk show "Ellen."

Finally, after years of waiting, Degeneres made the announcement on her talk show. Dory, the forgetful little fish who won the hearts of moviegoers around the world, would be getting her own movie. Degeneres joked, "kids, let that be a lesson to you. Anything is possible if you're patient and you beg enough on national television!"

In a press release by Disney and Pixar, director Andrew Stanton hinted about the movie's plot. "In 'Finding Dory' she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way," Stanton said. Deadline also reported that the film is set 6 months after "Finding Nemo." Dory suddenly regains her memories and makes her way back to the place she was born, the Marine Biology Institute of California.

Degeneres had praised the script and said, "the script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is—it's got a lot more Dory."

Dory will reunite with the characters of the first film including Marlin and the fish tank gang. Dory will also meet new characters including a whale shark, beluga whale and a giant squid. Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy have been cast to play Dory's parents, Jenny and Charlie.

Fans can also look forward to the Loons, as introduced by Pixar's Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter during Disney's CinemaCon showcase this year. They're "the Seagulls of the new movie. They're so startlingly dumb it's hilarious," he said.

Two years since the announcement of a sequel, it seems that Disney and Pixar are finally ready to reveal "Finding Dory" to the world.

Disney D23 Expo will finally unveil the trailer for "Finding Dory."

Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, along with Lasseter, will present and unveil never-before-seen footage of upcoming films: "The Good Dinosaur," "Finding Dory," Zootopia" and "Moana." The event will also include surprise announcements, musical performances and appearances from the films' casts.

The event will be held this Aug. 14 (Friday) at 3 p.m.

"Finding Dory" will be released in 3D to theaters on June 17, 2016.
