Five Nights at Freddy's 4 release date will be a fittingly grisly Halloween 2015

Imagine you are a night security guard at a local pizza place called Freddy Fazzbear's Pizza. Your job is to monitor the security cameras at night (your shift is between 12 midnight and 6AM). You are told the restaurant's mascots or animatronic robots—Freddy, Foxy, Bonnie and Chica—are given free rein to roam at night (they are no longer allowed to roam freely in the daylight due to an incident called "The Bite of '87"). You are further told that should the animatronics encounter any human, they will forcefully stuff said human into a spare mechanical Freddie Fazzbear costume. You can't leave your room, you have restricted power and very limited lights and secured doors. Suddenly, you have animatronic robots trying to make their way to you before you can find them. Welcome to Five Nights at Freddy's!

The original game was released in the period August to September 2014 (first via Desura, then Steam. Ports for IOS and Android soon followed). Since then, two additional follow-ups in the series have been released. The fourth release is coming in October 31, 2015, on Halloween.

Scott Cawthon recently posted another teaser art from the upcoming Five Night at Freddy's 4. The art is the Nightmare version of Foxy. Earlier, we beheld the Nightmare versions of Freddy, Bonnie and Chica, as well as a cupcake desk ornament. Fans are expecting that the next art to be released, closer to the Halloween debut will be that of Golden Freddy, who is the character that jumpscares the player whenever the player "loses."

What is interesting about the game series, is that it came about as a result of negative reviews for Cawthon's previous game, the family friendly "Chipper & Sons Lumber Co." The main character, a beaver, was mocked as looking like "a scary animatronic animal," with one reviewer calling the game unintentionally "terrifying." Through his depression, Cawthon took the comments at heart and created a game that intentionally was terrifying.

On April 2015, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that they have acquired the rights to adapt the series into film. The production team is collaborating with Cawthon "to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie." There are speculations that the movie will explore how everything started—from the murder by the Purple Guy of a child outside Fredbear's Family diner which started the series of events. It should explain how the ghosts of several children rise from the dead, seeking retribution or how the animatronic animals became the villains of the game.
