Earlier this year, Warner Bros. announced that their studio was interested in working on a film adaptation of Scott Cawthorne's indie cult game, "Five Nights at Freddy's." The studio company has since confirmed their involvement in the project and eventually received Cawthorne's blessing.

According to several reports, Gil Kenan would be directing the feature. Kenan is no stranger to the horror genre, having directed "Monster House" and "City of Ember" in 2008. More recently, Kenan has been tapped to work on the reboot of the film classic, "Poltergeist."

Despite the project being already ahead in terms of production, fans of the game have remained unsure about the adaptation. Cawthorne, however, explained that the plot of the game is basically a film waiting to happen.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," he said.

There is also a concern surrounding Kenan's ability to direct the feature properly. In response to one of his follower's tweet, he reassured them that he would do everything he can for the movie to remain faithful to the source, as he too is a fan.

"I'm a big FNAF fan myself! The depth of the game storyline is amazing... Scott is one hell of a world builder!" read his tweet, which he posted late in July.

Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment and Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg from KatzSmith Productions have also been tapped to produce the upcoming movie. Grahame-Smith has recently gushed about their involvement and expressed their excitement, saying that the upcoming movie would be as weird and terrifying as what fans hope it would be.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie."

The release date for "Five Nights at Freddy's" has yet to be announced. The movie is expected to debut in 2017.
