'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie theory: fans wonder about an origins movie

"Five Nights at Freddy's" has gained such a cult following. Now, the popular video game is being ported into a movie and speculations are high as to how the story will unfold.

Warner Bros. just earned the rights to turn the independent point-and-click survival horror video game into a movie. And since it has only been two months since the announcement was made, not a lot of details have been announced about the movie adaptation.

Due to the mystery of the plot, fans have gone wild with theories about where the movie is going to take them. YouTube community channel Typhoon Cinema even developed a short clip featuring the evil animatronic, Springtrap.

Theories about who the movie will revolve around have included Purple Guy, Phone Guy and Golden Freddy. Fans are calling for the same simplistic approach and the same feel for the movie adaptation. "Five Nights at Freddy's" continues to be popular, not for the threat the game poses, but rather for the suspense that comes with the threat -- the perfect recipe for the perfect horror film.

Though there are certainly a lot of possibilities in terms of which characters and what plot lines will be featured, MNR Daily speculates that the movie can only go two ways: one is that it will simply follow the same path the games are already treading or the second one, which is an origins story. And the website adds that going the origin route might make more sense.

Fans already know that a child was killed by Purple Guy outside Fredbear's Family Diner, which kicked off the series of events. But even that backstory has raised a lot of questions from fans, with many speculating on theories posted on the Five Nights at Freddy's Wikia forum.

An origin story will do so well in answering many of the fans' questions including how and why the events in the game unfolded. In addition, it will also be a good strategy to hook more fans into playing the game.

More details about the upcoming "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie have yet to be announced.

In the meantime, gamers can look forward to playing "Five Nights at Freddy's 4," which will be released on October 31.
