The recent announcement of the newest "Five Nights at Freddy's" video game was met with utter confusion by the franchise's fans. Before the confirmation, gamers were expecting that the next title would keep the series' horror concept and focus on the folklore behind the haunted and murderous animatronics. Instead, Scott Cawthon, the developer and creator of the indie series, is going to launch an entirely different game - "Five Nights at Freddy's World."

In a post on Steam Community, Cawthon revealed that the rumors are true and that he is indeed working on a new project. However he quickly clarified that his upcoming release is not going to be the fifth installment in "Five Nights at Freddy's" horror game series. According to the developer, the storyline that made him famous is over and there is no longer anything new that he could input to make the game different and better than the previous ones.

"It's very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy's 5. The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will not add to it," he said.

Despite not being a sequel to the franchise, Cawthon explained that "FNAFW" is being developed as a role-playing game and will include several characters from the original franchise.

He has also confirmed that the RPG is still in the thick of development. And as such, he and his team will not be able to release a demo come Halloween this year.

"The bad news is that it's unlikely that a demo will be ready for Halloween like I had hoped, since this game's scope is significantly larger than previous games in the series," he said. "However, I will release a free demo, as promised, as soon as it's ready!"
