'Frozen 2' release date, latest news, cast updates: Alan Tudyk confirms his return to the franchise

(Facebook/Frozen)Alan Tudyk has just confirmed that he will be back for 'Frozen 2.' However, details on the character he will portray have yet to be announced.

Fans of the box office hit "Frozen" are in for some official breaking news. Alan Tudyk has just confirmed his return to the sequel though details have yet to be revealed in the near future.

Tudyk was the voice actor of one of the villains in "Frozen," the Duke of Weselton. Though the actor played a villainous role, he was praised for his performance in the movie as it helmed the story of how Queen Elsa was able to reveal that she has superpowers.

Speaking with Fandango for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," Tudyk confirmed that he will be back for "Frozen 2." "I will [return]," he said. However, he also explained that he still does not know if he will reprise his role as the Duke of Weselton or if he will portray a different character.

"I don't know in what character form, though. I say that confidently just because I've been in the ones before and they are committed to continuing that tradition, which considering how many movies they put out... I'm gonna run out of voices at some point! But I haven't run out yet, so let's do it," Tudyk added.

Disney has not yet responded to Tudyk's remarks, but since it came from the famous voice actor himself, fans can rest assured that he will indeed be featured once more in "Frozen 2."

Meanwhile, there's still no official word on the plot for the highly anticipated sequel. However, iDigital Times notes that "Moana" may have paved the way for "Frozen 2" to come around in the very near future.

"Moana" was released during Thanksgiving, and just like the first "Frozen" movie, it was a blockbuster hit. According to the outlet, there is talk of an alleged November 2018 release date being planned for "Frozen 2," which is almost exactly a year after "Moana."

The success of "Moana" is said to give Disney enough time to finish all pending projects for the "Frozen" franchise, including a Christmas special which is expected to air sometime during the holidays next year.

For now, fans can only wait for official word on the full cast list, the plot, the premiere of "Frozen 2" and if Tudyk will reprise his role as the Duke of Weselton.
