Galaxy Note Edge vs. Mi Note Pro: Powerful Mi Note Pro seeks to beat off the costlier Note Edge

When it comes to phablets, the Galaxy Note Edge, with its curved, unique screen, is no doubt one of smartphone users' top choices. But for those looking for a budget device, Xiaomi's Mi Note Pro is an excellent option. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Note Edge has a captivating design. It comes with a curved screen with the curved portion able to work independently from the main screen. It displays favorite apps, news alerts, notifications and a night clock. It also comes with an S Pen stylus for easier writing and drawing. In terms of its build, it has a plastic body and has a back panel covered in faux leather. The Mi Note Pro houses a metal frame and has a back panel protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Display

When it comes to display size and sharpness, the Note Edge and the Mi Note Pro are equal. The Note Edge comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.6 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels and a density of 524 pixels per inch, while the Mi Note Pro has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 515 pixels per inch.

Specs

The Mi Note Pro is way ahead in terms of hardware as it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU. On the Note Edge is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, a Krait 450 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU.

Memory

The Note Edge has a memory slot, which allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. The Mi Note Pro does not come with a memory slot so users will have to settle for the internal storage. In terms of RAM, the Mi Note Pro is ahead with 4 GB while the Note Edge only has 3 GB.

Camera

The Note Edge has a better 16 megapixel camera compared to the 13 megapixel version on the Mi Note Pro. Both cameras have optical image stabilization.

Price

The unlocked Mi Note Pro has a price tag of $530 while the Note Edge costs $399 with a two-year contract.
