There were many who criticized the Galaxy S6 Edge's small battery and lack of waterproofing when it launched this year, but Samsung made sure to make up for Edge's lack of features with the Galaxy S6 Active. Here is how these two very differently designed phones compare.

Design

The S6 Active has a plastic body and a hard plastic back panel with rubber inserted along the sides. It comes in plain gray, camouflage white and camouflage blue. The S6 Edge, on the other hand, has a unique screen that curves over its right and left edges. Its body has a metal frame and is wrapped and protected by Gorilla Glass 4. One curved edge can be customized to display news alerts, five important contacts, the photos and colors assigned to them, as well as a night clock. One of the major differences between the two devices is that the S6 Edge is not waterproof while the S6 Active has an IP68 certification and can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. It is also shock and heat proof.

Display

The displays on both devices are similar and are equally sharp. Each has a 5.1 inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 577 pixels per inch.

Specs

Both devices come with the same Exynos 7420 chipset, an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.

Memory

Both devices do not have card slots and so external storage cannot be added. Each has 3 GB of RAM onboard.

Camera

The smartphones each has 16 megapixel camera, however, the S6 Active's camera does not have optical image stabilization.

Battery

The S6 Edge has a 2600 mAh battery while the S6 Active has a massive 3500 mAh battery.
