Galaxy S6 Active vs. Moto X (2014): S6 Active's speed is a plus point against the Moto X

Even with a new flagship device from Motorola expected to be released anytime soon, last year's Moto X continues to provide smartphones, including the Galaxy S6 Active, a ton of competition. Here is how these two plastic-clad devices compare.

Design

Both devices rely a lot on plastic for their build, however, the S6 Active uses a harder plastic along with rubber, making it very durable. The device also comes with an IP68 certification, which allows it to be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Aside from that, it is also resistant to humidity, rain and thermal shock. As for colors, the device has three, camouflaged blue, camouflaged white and gray.

The Moto X's advantage over the S6 Active is the customization options it provides its users. The Moto X has a huge variety, which can easily be customized on the Moto Maker website. The back panel can be wood, plastic or leather and the color of its trim and sides will depend on the what users prefer. Irrespective of the design, the device comes with a metal band around its rim.

Display

The display on the S6 Active wins in this category as it is one of the smartphones with the sharpest displays. It comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 576 pixels per inch while the Moto X has an AMOLED screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch.

Specs

The device from Samsung is faster as it has the same hardware that was used in this year's flagship, the Galaxy S6. It comes with an Exynos 7420 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760 GPU. The Moto X, on the other hand has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801chipset, a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU.

Memory

Both devices are similar as they do not have any memory slots. As for RAM, the Moto X has 2 GB while the S6 Active has 3 GB.

Price

The Moto X is the cheaper of the two devices and costs $99 with a two-year contract while the S6 Active costs $199 with a similar contract.
