Galaxy View news: Giant tablet specs revealed in GFXBench

(Samsung)Galaxy View tablet is going to be biggest in Samsung's lineup

Samsung has a big tablet in the works and it hinted as much at the IFA 2015 when it showcased it briefly in a video and referred to it as the Galaxy View. Unsurprisingly, the video did not provide many details about the tablet but just pointed toward it being big. Now, however, a new leak has provided a good look at its specs.

The leaked specs of the Galaxy View arrived as the device passed through the GFXBench benchmark database and it was subsequently picked up by a number of websites. GSMArena, reporting on the hardware present, states that the tablet with model number SM-T670 was spotted with an 18.4-inch display that easily dwarfs the iPad Pro, the slate unveiled recently by Apple.

The rest of the details shown in the GFXBench database point toward the device having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels which, given the size of the screen, would amount to a density of 119 pixels per inch. Also, the tablet apparently has no camera at its rear and only has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Coming to the hardware in the device, it is expected to have 2 GB RAM, 32 GB onboard storage and an Exynos 7580 chipset . The CPU is reported to be an octa-core version comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores that are clocked at 1.6 GHz.

Samsung has not outlined why it is creating the giant-sized tablet but, given the specs and the size of the device, it is unlikely to be a competitor to the iPad Pro which is targeted at enterprises and comes with the Apple Pencil stylus. Instead, the upcoming Galaxy View tablet could be targeted at those who do not have a television. This could be the reason why the device does not have a camera on the rear, a must-have feature for a lot of consumers who purchase tablets. However, it reportedly has GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and a light sensor.
