Samsung recently brought out the Gear Fit 2 and it has been described as a cross between a fitness tracker and smartwatch. However, the best-selling smartwatch by far has been the Apple Watch and this is how it compares to the Gear Fit 2.

Design

Here, the edge is completely with the Apple Watch since its build features several different materials, with the base Sport model being made from aluminum. The mid-range model has a steel body while the most expensive Edition line is made from solid gold. There are also various colors available for the body of the Apple Watch, including silver, yellow gold and rose gold. Straps for the devices are also available in a variety of materials, ranging from fluoroelastomer to leather and steel. Finally, the Apple watch has a rectangular case in two sizes, 38 and 42mm, and they have an IP67 waterproof rating which means it cannot be dunked in water.

The Gear Fit 2, on the other hand, has the appearance of a fitness band and so its body is lined up with strap and does not protrude. However, the strap is made from elastomer and the body consists of aluminum polycarbonate and fiberglass. As for the colors of the device, there are only three to choose from: blue, black and pink. However, there is a nice curve on the body of the Gear Fit 2 so it fits well on the wrist of the wearer. In terms of waterproof and dust proof ratings, the device can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Tizen is the operating system running the Gear Fit 2 and so it can only be paired with Android devices while the Apple Watch can be paired with iOS devices.

Display

Onboard the Gear Fit 2, there is a Super AMOLED display measuring 1.5 inches and it has a resolution of 216 x 432 pixels. As for the Apple Watch, it has an AMOLED display and the smaller 38mm model has a 1.32-inch version with a resolution of 340 x 272 pixels. The bigger 42mm model of the Apple Watch has a display measuring 1.5 inches with a resolution of 312 x 390 pixels.

Hardware

The Apple Watch comes with a S1 system-on-chip, 512 MB RAM, along with 8GB memory. As for the Gear Fit 2, it has a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM and its storage onboard is limited to 4GB.

Sensors

Sensors on the Apple Watch include a heart rate sensor, ambient light sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer. On the Gear Fit 2 is a GPS, a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer.

Price

The starting price of the Apple Watch is pegged at $300 and its solid gold models can cost up to $17,000 while the Gear Fit 2 costs $179.
