After launching what was considered to be the world's thinnest smartphone back then, the Elife S5.1 (just 5.6 mm / 0.22 inch thin), Chinese smartphone maker Gionee might be getting ready to beat the Samsung Galaxy S6 at pixel density (PPi) with its upcoming flagship Elife S8.

Gionee is well-known for its Elife S5.1 handset launched in September 2014 when it was considered to be the thinnest smartphone in the world. The Chinese OEM had launched another solid mid-ranger and extremely slim Elife S7 (measuring just 5.5mm thick/thin), at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in March this year. A new Gionee smartphone that could be the Elife S8 has now been spotted in the GFX Benchmark with an impressive list of hardware specifications.

The Elife S7 had the model number GN-9006 and the new phone spotted in a leaked GFXBench results bears the model number GN-9008, suggesting that it could well be branded as the Elife S8. The leaked GFXBench results reveal that the Elife S8 could feature a smaller 4.6-inch display with a resolution of 1440 by 2560 pixels (QHD), making it the smartphone with the crispest display in the world. The Elife S8's PPI of 639 even beats the two smartphones currently with the crispest displays - the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, both featuring a PPI of 577.

According to the leaked GFXBench test results, the Elife S8 is powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core MediaTek 6795 chipset along with the PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU for graphics, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of integrated storage space. The upcoming smartphone has an impressive 24-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. The Elife S8 will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed with Gionee's skin on top. There is still no official word on the Elife E8, though Gionee's president, William Lu has promised that the smartphone would be launched in June.
