'Girl Meets World' season 4 spoilers: Sabrina Carpenter teases fate of series

(Disney Official)'Girl Meets World' season 3 could be the last of the series.

"Girl Meets World" hasn't ended its third season but there are now rumors that the hit Disney series won't get renewed for season 4.

The rumors started when actress Sabrina Carpenter, who plays Maya on the show, talked about the future of the series during an interview with People. According to the 17-year-old, the cast always treats each season of "Girl Meets World" as if it were its last. She was even hoping that the series would have a go at another season as this will be helpful in the development of her character.

It remains to be seen if Disney will indeed renew the series. So far, the network hasn't made an official announcement yet. However, there are speculations that although season 3 might be the last for Disney, "Girl Meets World" could still continue its story once it is picked up by ABC Freeform.

This speculation started when a photo of the "Girl Meets World" cast, together with the cast of the original series, "Boy Meets World," surfaced online and can also be seen on Variety. Besides sparking rumors of the final run of "Girl Meets World," fans also took it as a hint that the show will be moving to Freeform to allow for more mature storylines.

According to reports, Maya and Riley (Rowan Blanchard) will soon move to college and will be faced with more mature issues that will be inappropriate to air on a TV channel specifically targeting younger teens and kids.

Parent Herald also mentioned in its report that a petition to renew the series continues to get more signatures. The petition involves getting "Girl Meets World" to move to Freeform as being on Disney Channel will only limit the stories of the characters.

At the moment, fans don't have official news about the series' renewal. However, there will be more episodes from the series that will be aired next year, a Disney Channel rep confirmed, according to the Variety report.

"Girl Meets World" season 3 airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on Disney Channel.
