Google has been releasing Nexus phones since 2010 and has tied up with several phone makers like Samsung, HTC, LG, and Motorola. Another phone brand, Huawei, was assigned to make its feature phone last year. 2016 looks promising as consumers are anticipating what Google has in store for them.

Huawei, together with another manufacturer, LG, released the Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X, respectively, in September of last year. In the past, the months of October and November were the usual time frames for phone companies to release their flagship devices. The search engine giant, however, doesn't give much of an announcement. Instead of putting up grand events, Google prefers to have it as simple as a blog post or something to that effect.

Another thing to look out for is the new Android operating system (OS) release date that usually concurs with its new Nexus devices. For now, the OS dubbed as Android N doesn't have a definite date of release yet. Google only stated that it's set for release this fall together with its new flagship phone. So, it's safe to assume that the so-called Nexus 7 will hit the shelves sometime in October.

Many are also wondering on who will Google tie up with in making the phone. As of late, Google is busy developing its modular Project Ara, and the company is showing no signs in making either software or hardware of the new Nexus device.

However, all eyes are on the Taiwan-based HTC lately. It is said that the company has two Nexus phones in development, which were code-named Marlin and Sailfish. HTC was responsible for making the first-ever Nexus One six years ago and the most recent one was the Nexus 9 tablet, which was released in 2014.

Having that said, another notable mention was a remark made by Huawei's Consumer Business Group general manager Charlene Munilall that they'll be making another Nexus this year. With these scenarios mentioned, it is probable that HTC and Huawei will be sharing duties in making the Nexus' hardware or Huawei will just be making an improved version of the Nexus 6P.
