Google Nexus 2016 rumors: Expect launches in September followed by October releases for this year's lineup

Similar to many other annually launched devices, the Google Nexus 2016 smartphones are expected to follow the same product cycle that has been established by its predecessors, which means fall announcements are likely in store for this year's set.

For those who may not recall, last year's lineup of Nexus devices were announced right around the end of September. The devices were then made available to consumers in October.

Barring a truly shocking turn of events, Google is not expected to deviate from this product cycle, and the timeline for the Android N operating system is also indicative of this.

Since the new Nexus devices are typically the first ones to feature the latest version of the Android OS, people can probably expect both to be announced at right around the same time.

Google has indicated that the final version of the Android N OS will likely be released in the third quarter of this year, putting it snugly within that rumored September release window for the Google Nexus 2016 devices.

This year's batch of Nexus devices are also expected to be a bit different from their predecessors, mainly because Google will reportedly only be working with one manufacturing partner this time around to produce two different smartphones, with that partner being HTC.

According to a report from Android Headlines that came out earlier this year, Google and HTC are reportedly working on 5 and 5.5 inch smartphones.

According to Tech Radar, the new smartphones will still likely feature fingerprint scanners, though they may be situated at the front of the devices this time around. Spec enhancements in the form of internal components being upgraded may be included as well.

The official specs of the Google Nexus 2016 devices are not yet known at this point, though more details should be released soon, especially with that expected September launch looming.
