One of the most eagerly anticipated devices set for release is Google's Nexus 7, initially rumored to come as a tablet. Latest developments to Google's new flagship device, however, suggest that it will no longer happen. Instead, Google is rumored to release an even more powerful device that will be called Google Pixel 7.

Google's Pixel phones were launched earlier this year, and, for purposes of building a formidable brand for the company, it might decide to call all of its future phones Pixel. The upcoming device is believed to feature a 7-inch high-quality definition display that will include 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, according to reports. With this feature, the future tablet would be very ideal for gaming and watching movies.

The tablet is also expected to include a fingerprint scanner at the bottom of its screen. As for its camera, it might feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. It is also expected to come with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of memory storage space. While it is highly likely the tablet may also come with a higher memory capacity, it may also include a microSD card slot in order to augment the much-needed space.

According to some sources, the upcoming tablet will come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset that is believed to be a powerful processor. It is also highly likely that it will include a 3,000 mAh battery. The device is also expected to carry an Adreno 530 GPU and a 2 TB storage extension package for those who will be needing bigger memories.

Google's forthcoming device is believed to be designed to compete with Apple's iPad Pro 2 and Microsoft Surface Pro 5. It is still unsure at this point whether Huawei will still manufacture the hardware for Google. There are strong speculations, however, that HTC is taking over the hardware production aspect of things. Google has yet to confirm which mobile company will be its partner for the Nexus 7.

The Nexus 7/Pixel 7 is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2017.
