An Android L-powered Google Nexus 8 is hitting the shelves with a release date before 2014 ends, according to reports, with presumably excellent specs.

"The Nexus 8 is thought to be the follow-up to the Nexus 7 and could be turning up within the next few months," said PC Advisor UK.

Google left no clue of a possible Nexus 7 follow-up during the Google I/O Developers Conference.

When HTC's name was dropped in various rumors, people expected that the August HTC event would reveal a Nexus 8.

Unfortunately, the occasion was dedicated to introduce the Windows Phone version of their flagship smartphone, HTC One M8.

HTC is holding another event slated for Oct. 8 in New York City, and some have already expressed their belief that this is where the Nexus 8 will be unwrapped.

Several photo and video leaks plaguing the internet today suggest that the Nexus 8 specs will sport a gorgeous material design and feature a 8.9-inch screen display with 2048 x 1440 resolution, 221 dpi and Nvidia Tegra K1 processor.

Forbes reported that the 16 GB version will sell for $399, while the 32 GB and LTE models will have a tag price of $499 and $600 respectively.

Earlier this year, rumors of Google killing the Nexus brand surfaced.

The tech giant cleared the air, however, and said that they are still very much invested in Nexus. This sparked speculations that another device is turning up and joining the gadgets craze this coming holiday season.

Google launched Nexus 7 a year ago, and it was dubbed as one of the best tablets in the market by PC Advisor.

If Nexus 8 will be released soon, it will face some tough competition from the likes of Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 and the latest phablets, including iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
