Google Nexus 8, LG Nexus 5 and Huawei Nexus 6 may release at same time later this year

(Google)The Google Nexus 9 tablet was released last year.

Google's first tablet, the Nexus 7, was released in 2012 alongside the Nexus 4 smartphone. Since then, Google has released a Nexus smartphone and tablet alongside each other each year. After the Nexus 7 was released, people naturally assumed that Google would release a Nexus 8. However, Google skipped the 8 and went on to release the Nexus 9 and 10.

For 2015, all eyes have been on Google's upcoming Nexus smartphones, the LG Nexus 5 and the Huawei Nexus 6. With the excitement and anticipation surrounding these two devices, it seems that consumers forgot about the possibility of a tablet debuting alongside them. It also seemed unlikely, due to Google already releasing two smartphones.

However, it is now being speculated that Google may be releasing a tablet after all. There is now talk of the Google Nexus 8 tablet being released this year, alongside the 2015 Nexus 5 and 6.

News regarding a "Nexus 8" tablet started gaining steam after an allegedly leaked GeekBench 3 benchmark test for the said device made its rounds online.

According to the benchmark test, the Nexus 8 will be powered by a 1.3 GHz octa-core processor. Given the 1.3 GHz clock speed, it seems that Google will not be using a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Nexus 8 may instead be using a MediaTek processor.

The benchmark test also indicated that the device was loaded with an Android 5.1.1 OS. If the Nexus 8 will be released, Google will most likely update the OS and it will ship with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Nexus 8 tablet is also rumored to sport an 8-inch display.

There were also no indications as to which company would manufacture the upcoming Google tablet.

Other than the details mentioned, not much else is known. At this point, the existence of a Nexus 8 tablet is still very much a speculation.

Consumers will have to stay tuned and wait for any official announcements from Google.
