GoPro is reportedly launching the fourth edition of its mega hit adventure camera, the GoPro Hero 4, with rumors putting the GoPro 4 release date in mid-October.

According Benzinga, the new camera will retail for $499.95, a substantial increase from Hero 3 Black Edition, which sells for $399.55.

Stifel analysts Jim Duffy, Lolly Iarocci and Peter McGoldrick wrote, "our summary view is that, balanced against execution risks, there is insufficient upside potential to justify a Buy rating."

"We see room for upside to our 3Q and 4Q revenue estimates, driven by sell-in of Hero 4, and uptake of the new product from the enthusiast user base as well as the higher point of the product," they added.

The "selfie" generation has paved the way for the company to go public in June.

The wearable action and sports camera maker's IPO entry valued the company to $2.96 billion.

"There probably hasn't been a consumer electronics brand as dominant as GoPro has been in its category since the early days of the iPod or the iPad," Dougherty & Co analyst Charlie Anderson said in a note to clients.

While there is official confirmation from GoPro, Air Herald scooped information on the possible specs of the new camera that is expected to come out of Nicholas Woodman's turf:

"GoPro Hero 4 is a camera, which weighs just 100 grams and has the potential to seamlessly record full HD videos. If you want to compromise at the resolution, videos can be recorded at a faster rate of 240 FPS at 720px and 120 FPS at 1080px resolution."

GoPro 4 rumors also suggest it will be built to withstand more extreme adventures and erratic weather conditions such as hail and storm.
