GoPro Karma release date not until winter this year

(GoPro Official)GoPro is suffering from poor sales and competition.

It was in December last year when GoPro announced to the public that it would be releasing its first-ever drone, the Karma. Since then, many photography and adventure-seeking individuals thought that they could lay their hands on the first-of-its-kind offering on the part of GoPro within the first half of the year. However, those anticipating the release of the device need to extend their patience a little more as it has been announced that Karma won't be available until winter due to the company's struggling finances.

During the company's earnings call last month, GoPro CEO Nicholas Woodman said that they thought that Karma's release would proceed as scheduled. However, with the revolutionary features that come with the device, the decision to push back its release date has been made.

"However, Karma includes revolutionary features that differentiate it from other drones — features that make it much more than a drone and deliver the versatility, value and performance that consumers expect from GoPro," Woodman said in the event.

While the company doesn't divulge much information about its first-ever drone, there are those who opine that it will be of great help to GoPro, which is believed to be financially struggling. Basing on GoPro's First Quarter 2016 Report, reports noted that competition and poor sales took a toll on GoPro's stock prices.

Because of the lukewarm response from the market, GoPro slashed the price of its Hero 4 model in half. The company also discontinued the production of some of its camera models after it experienced a 31 percent drop in its 2015's Q4 revenue. These things led the company to experience a loss of $57 million and a 7 percent drop on its stock price.

Nonetheless, some believe that the decision of GoPro to delay the release of Karma is a calculated move, notably because sales are usually much higher during the winter season and the holidays.

"While we had to make the difficult decision to delay our drone, Karma, the upside is that Karma's launch should now benefit from the holidays," admitted GoPro in its First Quarter 2016 report.
