The stage is set for the furious battle between former allies Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) in the upcoming season of "Gotham."

In May, executive producer John Stephens told Zap2it that they were planning an interesting storyline for Smith's character now that she is back in the city. Her return will reportedly confuse her ex-minion, the current king of the villains, Penguin. Last installment, he and Butch (Drew Powell) joined the battle on Indian Hill, hoping to kill Dr. Strange (B.D. Wong). They opened fired at a fleeing truck, thinking that he was inside. When the vehicle crashed, the men were shocked to find Fish inside. Butch immediately ran away, while Penguin fainted.

"In our mind, he has two thoughts. First there's 'Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God! I've got to kill her before she kills me!' Number two is 'Why didn't she kill me when she had the chance? What game is she playing?'" Stephens shared, according to Zap2it.

In season 3, it looks like Penguin will have the courage to fight against his former master. In the promo released (via Comicbook Movie), he is urging his supporters to join him in taking down the villainess. Fish, on the other hand, is regretting that she let Penguin live before. She is shown creating her own army composed of powerful antiheroes who have neither fear nor conscience, just like her. The mood is set for the ultimate showdown between the two groups. Who will emerge as the winner and take over Gotham City?

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the upcoming installment is out and it explains the sudden change that will take place in Ivy Pepper. It has been announced recently that actress Maggie Geha will be replacing Clare Foley in the show. The little girl who has shown a unique obsession with plants is now a full-fledged woman called Poison Ivy. As per Comic book, the transition will happen when Ivy Pepper meets one of the monsters of Dr. Strange. Reincarnated as a young woman, she now has full control of her powers and is ready to bring her own brand of chaos into the city.

"Gotham" season 3 will premiere on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
