'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 premiere spoilers: Maggie and Meredith, April and Arizona - what happens to their friendships?

(Facebook/GreysAnatomy)"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will see Maggie and Meredith's relationship in hot waters as the former learns about her sister's romance with Riggs

The upcoming season of "Grey's Anatomy" will see friendships taking some turns as Maggie and Meredith are torn over Nathan Riggs, and Arizona and April try to resolve their issues about April's pregnancy.

In the final episode of season twelve, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) tells her sister, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), that she likes Riggs (Martin Henderson). What's more complicated is she thinks Riggs likes her too, which, as fans know, is not true.

Meredith and Riggs have spent a night together and their blooming romance is still a secret. It is unclear what Mer will do, now that she knows how Maggie feels. Will she fight for her own heart or will she give way for her sister's happiness? How about Maggie? Will she accept that Riggs isn't into her and is actually into Mer?

For Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia in "Grey's Anatomy," there won't be cat fights or anything like that since she thinks the two will choose to be amicable over the issue. She tells Entertainment Weekly: "I don't know that they'll necessarily be at odds. Sisters before misters. It's possible that they'll both try and accommodate one another."

Another person that Meredith will have to face is Owen (Kevin McKidd), who is not only a good friend of her deceased husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey) but is also still grieving the disappearance of his sister, Megan, whose demise Owen believes is Riggs' fault.

Meanwhile, there's another friendship that fans are looking forward to. April (Sarah Drew) specifically told her best friend, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), that she wants her pregnancy kept secret from Jackson (Jesse Williams).

Arizona believes that Jackson deserves to know so he can help her out as she raises the baby. April still insists that Jackson doesn't need to know anything since they've called it quits.

April later finds Arizona telling Jackson about the baby and she gets really angry. In a recent interview with ETalk, Drew said she thinks Arizona and April will still give their friendship another shot despite Arizona's purported betrayal.

"They've also been through some rough waters this season, but they've always found their way back to each other as friends. I'm guessing we'll continue to see them kind of be each other's person in that friendship kind of way," Drew explained, as reported by Design & Trend.

Stay tuned for more updates on the storylines of "Grey's Anatomy" season thirteen, which will premiere on September 22, 2016 on ABC.
