Guardians of the Galaxy's beloved Groot inspired young boy to overcome speech difficulties

When "Guardians of the Galaxy" came out, people were introduced to the lovable Groot, a tree-like creature that can only say three words – "I am Groot." Since then, people have been trying to decipher what Groot is saying and how Rocket understands him.

A new TV spot for Disney's "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series even features what appears to be a Groot translator that would be able to interpret the different nuances of everything and anything that Groot says.

If that is still not enough for "Guardians of the Galaxy" fans, apps like Grootboard can help you by replacing your virtual keyboard with just one phrase that would show your love for Groot.

While most of us are just enjoying the awesomeness that's Groot, for one family he is the reason why their son is starting to overcome a speech problem.

Sawyer Dunlap is a 4-year-old boy living with dyspraxia, a developmental coordination disorder that causes motor and speech problems. Because of the disorder, Sawyer had difficulty talking, to the point that he developed his own form of sign language. He also just says "bah" whenever he wanted something. But all that changed when he watched "Guardians of the Galaxy."

After watching the movie, Sawyer's vocabulary now included "Groot" which was said with different inflections, much like the original hero. He has also started on speech therapy and Sawyer's parents attribute the progress he made to his connection with Groot.

Sawyer's father, Josh, was so grateful that he sent a private message to "Guardians of the Galaxy" director, James Gunn, who posted the family's story with the message "I love making movies because of stories like this. Thank you."

Hopefully, Sawyer will continue to improve especially since Groot and the rest of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" will start filming for the sequel in February 2016.
