'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' plot, cast news: Kurt Russell's character, new Ravagers revealed

Fans are gearing up for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," especially after the mainstream success that the first installment was able to achieve. The sequel will see new characters, including Kurt Russell's Ego The Living Planet and a few never-before-seen Ravagers.

It was recently revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that Russell would be playing the role of a living planet named Ego, who is also based on the comic book character of the same name. Ego will still be shown in human form, as was reportedly seen at the event.

There have been rumors circulating prior to the convention that Russell would be bringing Peter's (Chris Pratt) father to life, who is apparently Ego. Grasping the idea of Peter's father being a living planet is certainly no easy task, but director James Gunn assured fans that everything will be revealed in the sequel.

As for the new Ravagers, Gunn took to his Instagram to unveil the rebellious group, led by Taserface (Chris Sullivan) at the very center. It remains to be seen how this subversive team of Ravagers will play into the premise of the film, but their role in the sequel is without a doubt important.

During the panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, fans were treated to a first-look at "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" when a video was shown. However, for those who are awaiting the clip on YouTube, disappointment will follow as Gunn has revealed that the footage will not be uploaded yet. He did assure everyone that it will eventually find its way to the Internet once it has been finalized.

"I'm a perfectionist, and the truth is, it's not something neither I nor Marvel are comfortable with having out there, subjected to repeat viewings," Gunn explained in a Facebook live video.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will premiere on May 5, 2017.
