'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' plot news, updates: New teaser trailer released; baby Groot helps Yondu, Rocket escape

Marvel recently released the second teaser trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," and it is safe to say that the film will be packed with loads of action and fun — thanks in most part to Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer and Vin Diesel's Groot.

If the trailer is any indication, then director James Gunn's revelation that Drax is the "funniest character" was right. Bautista delivers a highly comedic performance at the end of the trailer when Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, is humiliated in front of Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana.

The trailer, which lasts a little over 2 minutes, teases a lot of action sequences to be featured in the sequel. It also introduces each hero with a title card. The five misfit superheroes can be seen fighting alien creatures, flying ships, and exchanging hilarious quips. It also features some of the clips already seen in the first trailer.

However, what's most exciting about the video is that it gives certain clues about the plot of the sequel. According to Independent, the creature they can be seen fighting is called an Abilisk. The publication posits that the guardians are enlisted to kill the Abilisk after gaining galaxy-wide fame. Moreover, baby Groot can be seen wearing a Ravager costume in the same bridge where Rocket and Yondu were seen in the first trailer. Despite his size, baby Groot takes out one of the Ravagers with great ease. It is believed that baby Groot will be responsible for helping Yondu and Rocket escape the Ravagers.

In other news, the song featured in the trailer, "Fox on the Run" by Sweet, has taken over the number 1 spot on iTunes' rock chart, despite having been released in the '70s. The same thing happened to Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling," which was heavily used in the promotion of the first movie. With Peter in possession of Awesome Mix Vol. 2, there is no doubt that the sequel will reignite the hype for old classics.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will premiere on May 5, 2017.
