'Hannibal' season 3: third season coming to NBC on 'June 4'; Mads Mikkelsen looks ice cold in promotional poster

The third season of the psychological thriller 'Hannibal' is set to debut this coming June. The thirteen episode run will begin on June 4 and is expected to conclude with its season finale on September 3. Lead actors Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen will return in their roles as criminal profiler Will Graham and serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter, respectively.

As part of the network's comprehensive marketing efforts for the show, NBC released a poster for the upcoming third season. The poster shows the titular villain as portrayed by Mikkelsen staring directly ahead and is followed up by a tagline of "Savor the hunt". So far, scant details have been released on the themes and plot for the upcoming season, but future promos should shed more light on what to expect for the first few episodes.

For now, only the titles of the first few episodes of the third season have been revealed. The first episode is entitled "Antipasto" followed by episodes entitled "Primavera" and "Secondo". In perhaps an ongoing trend for the season, the seventh episode is entitled "Digestivo", though it remains unclear how the episodes themselves will play with the "dining" theme. Expect something disturbing whatever happens as is often the case with the show.

The season premiere should also answer several questions following the myriad of cliffhangers shown during the second seasons' final episode. In an episode entitled "Mizumono", Hannibal confronts Graham and stabs him with a knife, and follows that up by slitting Abigail's throat and leaving several other victims bleeding as he leaves and flies to France with Dr. Du Maurier. Graham and Abigail will return for the third season, but it appears that they won't be the same following the brutal happenings of last season.

'Hannibal' begins June 4 and will air at NBC on 10 PM Eastern Standard Time.
