'Hawaii Five-0' season 7 spoilers: will Catherine Rollins return?

(Facebook/HawaiiFive0CBS)Season 7 will find the Hawaii Five-0 team reflecting on what legacy they will leave behind.

The two-hour finale of "Hawaii Five-0" season 6 was an exhilarating, exhausting but ultimately, enjoyable ride. Thankfully, the season didn't end on a cliffhanger, although Gabriel's demise and McGarrett's near-death experience will reportedly affect the team in season 7.

The first part of "Hawaii Five-0's" season 6 finale saw the team pinned down by Shioma's (Michelle Krusiec) private army and unable to get a wounded Gabriel (Christopher Sean) to the hospital in time. Chin Ho's (Daniel Dae Kim) brother-in-law succumbed to his injuries in the end, leaving him the sole living relative of Gabriel's young daughter. The second part of the finale reinforced what every fan of "Hawaii Five-0" knows, that Danno (Scott Caan) would do anything for his partner Steve (Alex O'Loughlin), even giving up half of his liver to ensure his partner's survival.

Season 6 might have ended on a good note, with McGarrett and Danno bickering while recovering from surgery, but the incident will reportedly affect the former SEAL's outlook in life. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Hawaii Five-0" showrunner Peter M. Lenkov explained that season 7 would find McGarrett more reflective and aware of his own mortality.

While McGarrett reflects on the legacy he will leave behind, an important person from his past will reportedly return — Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth). The character was last seen in season 5, when she left just as McGarrett was getting ready to propose to her. Lenkov revealed that he considered bringing Rollins back for the finale but decided against it in the end.

"I brought her back in the finale last season, and I didn't want to replay that moment of him laying on his deathbed and her coming in, because it would feel very similar to last year, even though it was not a life-and-death situation, it was Kono's (Grace Park) wedding," Lenkov explained.

But McRollins shippers can expect to see the two meeting again in season 7.

It appears that the theme for season 7 would be about legacy — what the characters would be leaving behind or how they will be remembered. Aside from McGarrett, Chin is also at a crossroad and the next season would find him making a decision about whether or not he will be a father to Gabriel's daughter. Fans might also see him proposing to Abby (Julie Benz). As for Kono, she will finally be reunited with Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) but might think about leaving "Five-0" for a quieter life.

No official date has been set yet, but "Hawaii Five-0" season 7 is expected to return to CBS in the fall.
