It's been 10 years since fans first saw Sharpay Evans bopping her way to the top. And with news of a fourth installment in the "High School Musical" franchise coming to light, many wonder if the fierce blonde theater queen will join the passel of incoming newbies.

Star Ashley Tisdale, who played the iconic Sharpay, finally weighed in on the debate and confirmed that she will not be reprising her role.

The news came in the form of an interview with New You magazine. And even though Tisdale hated to disappoint fans, the actress explained her side of the story.

"Looking back, it was such a perfect thing for its time and was so pure that I just don't know how you go from there," Tisdale told the publication (via E! Online). "'High School Musical' didn't make us, we made 'High School Musical' because of our friendship, how close we were and the magic there at the time."

It was first speculated that Tisdale would make a cameo appearance as Sharpay, along with her brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), when it was revealed that their cousin Campbell would be joining the upcoming film as a new character. Given the popularity of the franchise and the character itself, it's not surprising that fans would want to see Sharpay back on screen.

And fans are not the only ones excited for "High School Musical 4." It was previously reported that Vanessa Hudgens, who played lead role Gabriella Montez in the first three films, is looking forward to the new movie. However, Zac Efron, who played basketball star and Gabriella's love interest Troy Bolton, doesn't seem to be into it.

As of now, no exact release date has been set for "High School Musical 4," but the film is definitely in the works. Auditions have been held and the script is already good to go.
