'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: Carrie wants forgiveness for her sins

(Facebook/HomelandonShowtime)Carrie seeks forgiveness in "Homeland" season 6.

Carrie (Claire Danes) wants atonement for everything she has done as a CIA agent in the upcoming season of "Homeland."

As per Inquisitr, Carrie has spurned Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) offer to return to the CIA because she wants to dedicate her time helping Muslim Americans who are experiencing discrimination. The new installment will find her in New York, working with a foundation for a good cause. Carrie is reportedly seeking forgiveness for her past mistakes by helping people in need. Although she has already rejected the offer to return to her old post, she will still be in close contact with the CIA, especially Saul

"She's stateside; she's living with her daughter. This idea of atonement is still playing. She's accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she's still wrestling with that. She's on her meds! She's probably mentally capable," Danes said in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Most of the action for season 6 will reportedly take place in the United States. The country is close to electing its new leader. The incoming POTUS is a female who will become Carrie's friend. Even though Carrie is not part of the CIA anymore, she will not be able to ignore her call of duty once the U.S. becomes embroiled in a messy political unrest. Moreover, Saul is determined to bring her back where she belongs. As per recent spoilers, the CIA man will do everything he can to convince his protégée and make her change her mind.

Patinkin said in an interview that his character considers Carrie his salvation. If he were to pick who between them is the better agent, Saul will ultimately pick Carrie. He thinks she has been born for this job, a "caretaker of humanity," and believes it will be such a waste if the CIA loses her. There is still time for Carrie to reconsider.

"Homeland" season 6 airs Jan. 15, 2017 on Showtime.
