'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: Will Carrie find time for love amid new missions?

(Facebook/HomelandonShowtime)Carrie considers romance in "Homeland" season 6.

Carrie Mathison is back in the United States and will possibly return to her old job with the CIA. As she faces new missions and threats, will she still find time for romance?

Last season, the female intel officer experienced how to have an almost normal life. She had a boyfriend, Jonas Happich (Alexander Fehling), albeit for a while, and became the love interest of her Berlin boss, Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch). He even proposed to her in the season 5 finale, and although it looked like a business offer than anything else, it was a moment for Carrie to remember that she was still a desirable woman.

Of course, there is Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), her guide and savior, who told her he has always loved her even when they were apart. It was him who kept Carrie alive when many bad people were targeting her. Carrie was thankful for Quinn's love, but she never actually got to tell him her feelings. His condition after having been exposed to too much sarin gas did not encourage much talk. Quinn was suffering from severe brain hemorrhage and it was a touch-and-go situation.

In fact, the last scene in the finale shows Carrie turning off his life support system. As she sat beside Quinn, watching him, a strange light pervaded the hospital room, which many believed to be a clue that he has passed on. Fans have been very vocal in pleading the series' showrunners to keep Quinn alive in season 6. Showtime boss David Nevins hinted in January (as per Entertainment Weekly) that Friend's character might live, but he would never be the same again.

Meanwhile, Nevins also addressed the gossip that the upcoming season would deal with storylines regarding the US presidential election, Donald Trump and other current news concerning the country and the world. He said that it was probable, since the show tends to use realistic plots.

"There was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team. They don't tend to [use] real people, but they tend to find themes that are real, so it's possible," he said.

"Homeland" season 6 is scheduled to air in September on Showtime.
