'House of Cards' season 5 rumors: Upcoming season to be rough and tough for Frank Underwood

(Facebook/House of Cards)Will Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood character die in "House of Cards" season 5?

Things will get rough and tough for Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) when "House of Cards" returns for its season 5 as he might lose his status as the President of the United States (POTUS) in an election and may even be assassinated.

According to the latest reports, Frank Underwood will be challenged by a Hillary Clinton type of character in the Netflix series' own version of the U.S. presidential elections. Unlike the outcome of the real U.S. elections, though, it is said that Netlfix's version of Hillary Clinton will emerge as the victor.

As of this writing, it is unclear whether "House of Cards'" Hillary Clinton will be a new or already an existing character on the series. After all, some reports claim that the series' version of the political figure is no other than Frank Underwood's wife, Claire Underwood (Robyn Wright).

Some plot theories say that Claire Underwood will connive with Frank Underwood's trusted aide, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), to orchestrate her husband's demise. After all, Claire's relationship with her husband has soured since the series' season 3.

Reportedly, Claire will have her husband assassinated and use his death to gain sympathy from the voters, and she will succeed in becoming the next POTUS. If this will be the case, then, it goes without saying that Frank Underwood will no longer be able to take part on "House of Cards'" own U.S presidential elections.

Apart from having a Hillary Clinton-like character, it was earlier reported that the series is also going to feature a Donald Trump-inspired character, and that the series version of the U.S. elections would be a three-way fight.

Meanwhile, recent reports claim that Spacey was spotted at a Starbucks branch in Shaw, D.C., prompting people to believe that the actor's presence in the said state is an indication that filming for the Netflix series is still ongoing. In fact, it is also said that some locals were invited to take part as extras in some of the scenes being filmed.

Will "House of Cards" season 5 really feature a Hillary Clinton-inspired character? If it is, will it be Claire Underwood or a new character? If it is Claire Underwood, will she do so after Frank has been assassinated, or will she run against her husband?

Find out when "House of Cards" season 5 begins streaming on Netflix early next year.
