Fans are dying to know what's in store for them in season 5 of "House of Cards," though rumors are hinting that they may just have to turn on the news to figure out the answer.

That's because rumors currently swirling around the show have hinted that the current political climate may end up heavily influencing what the Underwoods – Frank and Claire – will deal with once season 5 gets underway.

Featuring a ripped-from-the-headlines narrative for season 5 would not be that surprising, especially given the show's main subject matter.

Rumors have even indicated that the showrunners may bring on some new people to stand in as somewhat fictionalized versions of the recent presidential nominees from the Democratic and Republican parties.

Interestingly enough, back in October, news did break that the show just added two new cast members who are set to take on important roles.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that both Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott have signed on to join the cast of "House of Cards" for the show's fifth season, and while they are expected to be given big roles, specific details about them have not been completely shared just yet.

Is it possible that Clarkson and Scott will serve as the show's stand-ins for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump?

Unfortunately, only the showrunners know the answer to that question for now, so fans will just have to wait as to what other season 5 details are shared in the coming weeks and months.

While it's still unclear exactly how, or even if, the show will address the current political climate, fans can still expect the Underwoods to be featured prominently as they govern the country while dealing with their own issues.

No official premiere date has been announced for season 5 of "House of Cards," though it is widely expected to make its return sometime around February or March of next year.
