Houston Rockets free agency, trade rumors 2016: Patrick Beverley's injury opens backcourt spot?

Bad news for the Houston Rockets as they might need to find a replacement for Patrick Beverley, who faces the possibility of undergoing surgery due to a left knee woe.

In a report by ESPN, Beverley is set for evaluation this week. However, Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni is pessimistic about the guard's chances of being on the court in their season opener versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 26.

This is a hard blow to D'Antoni's rotation since Beverley is a starter and the main backcourt partner of franchise star James Harden.

ESPN mentioned that Eric Gordon and K.J. McDaniels are currently being used by D'Antoni to replace Beverley while he is out. This will likely continue as their new campaign progresses.

Despite having two options available as of the moment, it is possible for the Rockets to add another shooting guard in Beverley's absence. This is to have depth at the position, something essential for a team that aims to contend.

Perhaps the best choice for the Rockets is to search the market for free agents. Big names were already taken, but there are a few quality guys left. Leading the group is the veteran Kevin Martin. Joining him are fellow experienced players like Kirk Hinrich, Mario Chalmers, Steve Blake and Gary Neal. Some of these are point guards but can pass as players at the no. 2 position when needed.

A trade can be considered by Houston but with the season nearing, it is difficult to accomplish one. Still, it may be an answer to the organization's current dilemma.

However, it is unknown if the Rockets are planning to make a move with Beverley hurt. Adding another player could ruin the team chemistry established during camp and the preseason.

Along with this, crowding at backcourt will be an issue for the Rockets once Beverley is healthy and ready to again see action.
