'How to Train Your Dragon 3' release date, plot news: Film gets pushed back to March 1, 2019; plot points to the duo's separation

(YouTube/ DreamWorksTV)"How to Train Your Dragon 3" gets a March 2019 launch date.

Fans will have to wait a little longer for Hiccup and Toothless' return to the big screen, almost a year more than what was initially expected. Despite the fact that this is sad news, it could mean bigger things for the franchise.

DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon 3" has been pushed back to a March 1, 2019 launch date, which was initially slated for May 18, 2018. It was also confirmed that director for the first two films, Dean DeBlois, will continue to take the helm for the third installment.

No news has been gathered as to why it was pushed back, but one can speculate it could be a move to avoid competition against a "Star Wars" spin-off film. If anything, fans can only hope that this gives more time to creating a more breathtaking addition to the "How to Train Your Dragon" series.

The synopsis for the upcoming movie reads, "As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless' discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup's reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind."

This could mean that earlier speculations about the third film could hold ground. It was predicted that the new story would tackle Toothless' origins. When both Valka and Drago saw Toothless, they immediately recognized it was a night fury, which could mean they have seen others.

A more heartbreaking angle is how Hiccup and Toothless would make decisions to save their own kind. If the film remains true to the book, fans will be in for a tear-jerking experience as the two go their separate ways for the welfare of those who look up to them.

Fans will have to wait and see until March 1, 2019 how the third film is going to pan out. If the rumors are true that it is going to be the last, spectators can only expect that "How to Train Your Dragon 3" could be the biggest yet.
