After the success of the first two "How To Train Your Dragon" films, a third and anticipated sequel has been slated for a June 9, 2017 release.

It will be more than two years until fans of the "How To Train Your Dragon" films will get to see a third film. In a report by Slash Film, director Dean DeBlois has revealed that he has just pitched the plot and story idea for the third film to DreamWorks.

DeBlois stated that DreamWorks has always understood that there will be a third sequel, considering the DeBlois' determined and ever-evolving plans to tell the story.

"I think from the moment that they agreed to my pitch that the second film should be the middle act of a trilogy then we always knew that there would be a third film," said the director in a report by Slash Film.

"In fact, I've been pitching an in-progress outline of the third film for the last two and a half years," added the director.

Fans of the animated movies might be surprised that the third movie won't be featuring dragons anymore, as it is expected to show Hiccup as an adult in a world without the dragons.

"Just by concept there's something really compelling and emotionally powerful to the idea that this trilogy will complete with the dragons somehow going away, why they went away, and what the mystery is that surrounds that," explains the director to website, Den of Geek.
