HTC J Butterfly release date, specs, features, price: Japan unveiling for redesigned One M9 with killer features

The Taiwanese tech giant's Butterfly series was the first smartphone line in the industry to produce full HD resolutions. The HTC J Butterfly 3 carrying the model number HTV31 is the company's latest high-end device and is available on Japanese carrier KDDI. Instead of the metal unibody exterior in the HTC One M9 devices, the HTC J Butterfly 3 comes with a plastic chassis, but is water and dust resistant with IPX5/ IPX7 and IP5X certification, unlike HTC's other high-end devices.

Measuring 151x73x10.7mm and weighing 162 grams, the all-new HTC J Butterfly sports a 5.2-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) Super LCD3 display. Similar to the One M9, the device is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 (quad-core 2GHz quad-core 1.5GHz) SoC, paired with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone offers 32GB built-in storage, which is expandable up to 200GB via microSD card. The HTC J Butterfly sports a 20.2-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, along with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as the dual rear camera setup first featured in the HTC J Butterfly launched last year.

Just like the One M9, the HTC J Butterfly (HTV31) runs Android 5.0 Lollipop and packs a 2700mAh battery, similar to the one inside the 2014 flagship handset, but with new quick charging features. HTC's new smartphone supports LTE connectivity (Japan's 4G LTE bands), and also provides Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, GPRS/ EDGE and 3G connectivity options.

The HTC J Butterfly is listed on the company's Japanese site and mobile carrier KDDI's website. There are no details about the pricing of the HTC J Butterfly, though the company has confirmed that it will be released in Japan this summer.
