HTC One M9 'INK': official unveiling of limited edition handset inspired by body art

HTC's latest flagship device the One M9 may have failed to impress customers and come under fire for lacking major improvement as well as falling behind competitive offers, but that doesn't seem to have deterred the company from coming out with its limited-edition version called the HTC One M9 INK, which draws its inspiration from body art.

The HTC One M9 has faced tough competition from LG G4, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which have sold more than 10 million units sold so far. Recently, HTC was forced to hold a shareholder's meeting in an effort to assuage investors' fears, where the CEO apologized for the company's disappointing performance this year promised that a new "hero product" would be released as early as October.

Last week, HTC, which is an official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League, had introduced a 24ct gold limited edition of the M9 to celebrate the finals played on Saturday. This time, HTC has teamed up with worldwide fashion icon and supermodel Jourdan Dunn to promote the new HTC One M9 INK. Back in April HTC had named supermodel Dunn as its new global ambassador and announced that it would be working in partnership with her to release a set of limited edition One M9s.

HTC has now released images of the One M9 INK in both gold and metallic silver, showing custom body art-inspired illustration engraved onto the back of the phone made by celebrity ink designer Cally-Jo Pothecary. The 'tattoo' is made up of symbols, including an eye (representing "strength and sincerity"), hand ("protection and positivity"), leaves ("show a blossom of creativity"), and the sun and moon (representing "balance and harmony").

HTC has not announced the pricing and availability details of the device, and interested buyers will first need to register on the company's website in order to purchase the exclusive limited edition One M9 INK.
