Huawei has finally launched its newest high-end tablet, the Honor Note 8, in China just as the company said it would last week.

The specs of the midrange Android device include a Kirin 955 octacore chipset with 4 GB of RAM. It also has an expandable storage capacity of up to 128 GB. As for the design, the tablet boasts of a 6.6-inch screen sporting a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. According to GSM Arena, there's a possibility that a 3 GB variant may be offered since it was spotted in the Chinese regulatory board TENAA.

For the camera, the Note 8 has a 13-megapixel main camera at the back, equipped with dual LED flash and laser autofocus. There is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter at the front. The tablet also has a big 4,500 mAh battery. The Note 8 is a large-sized device with a big chunk of battery so it's expected to be heavy, with a recorded weight of 219 grams.

The pre-order period for the Honor Note 8 has already started and the units will be shipped starting on Aug. 9. The 32 GB entry-level variant costs $345; the mid-tier 64 GB variant is priced at $375; and the high-end variant 128 GB costs $420. The tablet is currently available to only China but according to Engadget, a U.S. release is happening in the future. An exact release date has not been revealed but more updates should come soon.

Meanwhile, the Honor Note 8 is being pitted against the Xiaomi Mi Max, but it looks like it could also be a potential rival of Samsung's flagship, the Galaxy Note 7, according to some reports. The launch of the Note 8 just came at a perfect timing with the recent launch of the Galaxy Note 7. The Honor Note 8 seems to have impressive flagship specs that compare with Samsung but it all boils down to its affordability. However, BGR reported that Honor Note 8's exclusivity in China will affect the tablet's overall popularity.
