After the Nexus 6P was released by Google, there have been several problems reported about the hardware on the device. Earlier, there were reports that the glass panel on the rear of the handset that encloses the camera would crack spontaneously, and now it appears that noise cancellation on the microphone malfunctions.

The latest problem pertaining to the low quality of sound during calls and even cases of muffling were reported by Android Police. The website also pointed out that the issue is being on discussed on various product support forums for Google's devices, and the threads have a growing number of participants. The issue on call quality apparently only exists on the side of the user using the Nexus 6P whose voice cannot be heard while the other person does not experience any issue. Also, the problem was reportedly noticed on calls conducted via speakerphone and while making an ordinary call.

As several dozen people joined the thread and described their problem, it came to the attention of Google. The company then replied to the users on the official forum for the Nexus 6P and mentioned that they are looking into it.

In the meantime, users on the Google Product forum have tried to resolve the issue themselves and several have concluded that the fault lies in the software that is used for noise cancellation. One user even turned it off using the build version of the software and claimed that it "fixed the poor audio" quality issue. Meanwhile, others have pointed out that special hardware is used for noise cancellation, and it is not done with software so users should stop pestering Google to fix the problem by rolling out an update to Android.

Finally, it is clear that as far as this particular issue goes, people are unsure what is causing it. Some users of the Nexus 6P are stating that placing their hand over the rear microphone used for noise cancellation solves the issue. However, others are adamant that when they cover the rear microphone, they notice poor audio quality.
