'Humans' season 2 spoilers, rumors: Niska as the villain and hero

(Facebook / Humans)Filming for "Humans" season 2 is underway and will premiere in 2017.

Season 2 of "Humans" will introduce new characters and new dangers, but it is widely speculated that Niska's action will endanger her former allies, including the Hawkins family.

Filming for "Humans" season 2 has started in April, and while it debuts in the United Kingdom later this year, US viewers have to wait a little more. The freshmen season ended with the rebellious synth Niska leaving with a copy of the program containing the codes that could make other synths conscious.

Among the new characters to be introduced are artificial intelligence expert Dr. Athena Morrow, and young billionaire and technology company CEO Milo Khoury. Actress Carrie Anne Moss and actor Marshall Allman will play the roles, respectively. They are said to be working on giving synths human consciousness. It is believed that Niska will either be captured by them or she could willingly work for them. She is, however, believed to realize the dangers of creating consciousness later on and will work with the others once again.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley revealed that they have really set the finale up to tease what danger the possession of the code brings. Brackley said, "We always wanted to get the code out there and have the threat. Niska's the best person to be taking care of that."

Vincent added, "You've seen her do very bad and dangerous things and be very scary. Yet, you've also seen a different side to her, a vulnerable side, a damaged side. We don't think Niska's really evil or bad in any way, but she's certainly dangerous and unpredictable, so we all thought that was an exciting place to end. It would make for an interesting journey in season 2."

There will be a time jump from season 1's finale to the story that would take place in season 2, but no radical changes will be involved. The writers revealed they wanted to delve deeper into a world where synths have more control as they live with regular humans.

"Humans" season 2 will premiere in 2017 on AMC.
