IFA 2014 Berlin Preview: Next big smartphones, smartwatches and 'the smart home'

As the opening biggest consumer electronics fair in Europe nears, excitement surrounds the Berlin IFA 2014 with buzzes of product releases from top-notch electronics companies.

Samsung has already revealed its "Unpacked 2014 Episode 2" event that will showcase Galaxy Alpha and the rumored Galaxy Note 4.

The supersize Samsung flagship smartphone will go up against Apple iPhone 6, which will likely be unveiled during the Sept. 9 Apple media affair in Cupertino, Calif.

Rumors have it that Galaxy Note 4 will sport a mega 2650 x 1440 resolution display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset.

GSM Arena has listed six smartphone models that they predict to steal the show at the IFA 2014.

This includes Windows Phone OS-powered Nokia Lumia 730, Nokia Lumia 830, and Android smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Huawei Ascend Mate 7, Sony Xperia Z3 and Asus Zenphone 2.

Reports have also suggested that LG G3 Prime, Sony Xperia Z3 and Moto X 1 are gracing the event.

Berlin's IFA 2014 is also prophesied to give birth to the "age of smartwatches," with Samsung, LG, Sony and Motorola unraveling their bets in this newest mobile market.

Outside of the digital mobile circle, IFA 2014 will also be the launch pad of Panasonic and its lineup of digital AV equipment, home appliances and business solutions.

The company is expected to be a part of the "smart home" explosion during the electronics fair.

INMOTION Technologies has also confirmed attendance for the event and revealed that they will be unwrapping a self-balancing electric unicycle.

IFA 2014 Consumer Electronics Unlimited will take place as the Exhibition grounds at Funkturm, Messedamm in Berlin, Germany from Sept. 5 to 10, 2014.

For those who are not familiar with IFA, it is Europe's answer to the United States' CES.

This annual event started in 1924 as a host for multimedia trade fair, but years later has turned into the largest consumer electronic's trade show in Europe, where the most prestigious technology and telecommunication companies exhibit and launch the latest product releases.
