The Oct. 16 Apple, Inc. event would have been snooze-fest if it had been up to the less-than-stellar iPad lineup, but the iMac with 5K Retina Display release date announcement saved the day with some impressive specs upgrades.

"With the latest quad-core processors, high-performance graphics, Fusion Drive and Thunderbolt 2, iMac with Retina 5K display is the most powerful iMac ever made—it's the ultimate display combined with the ultimate all-in-one," the official press release stated.

While the iPhone segment generates the major chunk of Apple's revenues, the company is still deeply-rooted in the computer business.

After all, they were computer guys long before there were either smartphones or tablets.

"Thirty years after the first Mac changed the world, the new iMac with Retina 5K display running OS X Yosemite is the most insanely great Mac we have ever made," said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

"With a breathtaking 14.7 million pixel display, faster CPU and graphics, Fusion Drive, and Thunderbolt 2, it's the most beautiful and powerful iMac ever," Schiller added.

The new iMac with 5K Retina Display will run OS X Yosemite, the latest computer OS from Apple.

Several analysts expressed disappointment over the lackluster iPad Air 2 and Mini 3 upgrades, but feels that Apple made a difference announcing the iMac with 5K Retina Display specs.

The 27-inch iMac 5K highlights the highest resolution display of any PC at this point in the market.

The iMac 5K Retina Display (5120 x 2880 pixels) breathes more life into photos and videos, makes text appears sharper and creates an ultra refined level of visuals.

Aside from the stunning display, the new iMac comes with a 3.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost, 32 GB of memory and 3 TB Fusion Drive.

"The most stunningly powerful iMac yet," as the company calls it, retails for $2,499 in Apple App Store, and shipping of the iMac with 5K Retina Display has already begun.
