iPad Air 3, iPad Mini 5 specs, release date: New iPad models launching together before the holidays?

(Apple Official)

The 2016 Worldwide Developers Conference by Apple recently concluded last week and those who were looking forward to the unveiling of new Apple devices have been disappointed.

Among the devices that people were expecting at the event were the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Mini 5. Without any updates from the Cupertino-based company regarding the release of this new iPad line of devices, rumors are starting to swirl as to when Apple will release the new models.

Reports suggest that the two new iPad devices will be released simultaneously. MacWorld predicts that the new iPad Air 3 may be available in September 2016, when Apple holds its annual event. Then again, it is also likely that the new Air model will come out in March 2017. The iPad Mini 5, on the other hand, is more likely to be unveiled in September, similar to the release date of its predecessor, the iPad Mini 4, according to MacWorld in a separate report.

Since Apple hasn't confirmed anything yet, it's not certain if these devices will be released this year or if they will immediately come out after launch. However, it is widely believed that these new devices should be available before the year ends, most probably before the holiday rush, which means they're likely to be out in December.

As for specs, rumor has it that the iPad Mini 5 will have a much thinner design compared to its predecessors and it will have a new chassis, probably made of a 7000-series aluminum. The 3D Touch technology from iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is also believed to be on board for the Mini 5. Meanwhile, rumors about the iPad Air 3 having a Smart Connector still stands. This feature should allow an accessory, particularly the Smart Keyboard Cover, to be plugged in to the device. The upcoming iPad Air is also believed to have a more powerful battery with an Apple Pencil that's rechargeable when a person attaches it to the gadget.
