iPad Air 3 release date rumors: Apple to ditch Air lineup to focus on iPad Pro models?

(Apple Official)

A new model of the iPad Air series was expected to make a debut last year in October. However, the tablet didn't make an appearance and the spotlight was on the iPad Mini and the iPad Pro instead, which came out in September. Now, rumor has it that Apple may have discontinued the Air lineup to put focus on the iPad Pro.

Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro received a refresh shortly after its September release. In March this year, the company introduced the smaller version, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and shipped units within that same month. This fueled the speculation that the iPad Air 2 was the last of the Air lineup.

However, this did not stop some rumors about a new iPad Air from emerging. It only shows that there are still Apple fans who want a new Air model. The iPad Air 2, which is already two years old, is now offered at great discounts over at eBay. However, it should be noted that the discounted units are not found on Apple Store but on eBay, an auction site.

The hope for the iPad Air 3 doesn't end there. There are reports suggesting that Apple will still have a new iPad Air model with a possible launch date of October this year. According to Trusted Reviews, this device will have a thinner and lighter design and it is expected to be more powerful than its predecessor.

The tablet will also be expected to have the same screen size as the current iPad Pro. It's also possible that 9.7-inch iPad Pro's features will be adopted by the new iPad Air 3, which means that it could have an A9 processor.

Because it is predicted that the iPad Air 3 will be thinner, it may also come with a smaller battery.

Since reports surrounding the iPad Air 3 are purely based on speculation, it should be taken with a grain of salt.
