iPad mini 5 release date, specs, features: Rumored to launch in March 2017

(Apple)Pictured is the iPad mini 4, the predecessor of the upcoming iPad mini 5 that is rumored to be unveiled in March 2017.

After the iPhone 7 started to make headlines since last week, Apple still remains tight-lipped about its other products like the Mac line and the iPad line. A lot of gadget enthusiasts are looking forward to seeing the upcoming Apple iPad mini 5, which could be unveiled in March 2017.

The iPad mini 5 was previously rumored to come out along with the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 at the Sept. 7 Apple event. However, the tablet was a no-show. There were also rumors that it may come in at a surprise Apple event next month or sometime before 2016 ends. New reports have surfaced that the Cupertino-based company is planning on holding a March event next year, which is where the iPad line will most likely be unveiled.

According to reports, the fifth iteration of the smaller iPads may no longer be unveiled this year and buyers will have to wait until next year, sometime in the first quarter.

Because of the excitement and the anticipation, there are also numerous predictions and speculations on the specs of the upcoming iPad mini 5.

There are speculations that the upcoming mini 5 will feature a pressure sensitive 3D Touch home button, which could be similar to that in the newly released iPhone's home button. As for its size, users can expect a much lighter and thinner tablet compared to the previous versions. The key to get their desired size would be the use of 7000-series aluminum chassis. Now, with the possible exclusion of the 3.5-mm jack, this could mean that the tablet will also be water and dust-resistant.

For its display, it may sport a 7.9-inch screen with Retina display. Under the hood, the iPad mini 5 is speculated to run on an A9 processing chip, coupled with a 7th-generation PowerVR GPU. It may have a 3 GB RAM and a 32 GB base internal storage with up to 256 GB variant.

More details on the upcoming iPad mini 5 are expected to come out soon.
