Fans are still waiting for the release of the next iteration of the iPad Mini, which was expected at Apple's recently concluded 2016 Worldwide Developers Conference.

However, no new device from Apple made a debut at the event and so the rumor mill continues to churn. According to reports, it is likely that the new iPad Mini 5 will be launched in September alongside other rumored Apple devices.

The iPad Mini lineup usually makes its debut in October, but in 2015, the iPad Mini 4 came much earlier than expected, during the September event. It is now believed that iPad Mini 5 will also have a September release, as Apple reportedly plans to introduce all new devices in one event. Rumor has it that iPad Mini 5 will share the spotlight with the iPhone 7, iPad Air 3 and other devices that may come out before 2016 ends.

As for what the new iPad Mini will look like, speculation is rife that this new tablet will be much thinner compared to the previous models. It is also expected that the Mini 5 will carry a different chassis, a 7000-series aluminum, which is the same type found in the iPhone 6s series. According to Macworld, this should give the Mini 5 its durability, especially if it will be thinner as rumored.

For the camera, it is also believed that Apple won't focus much on upgrading the Mini 5's camera specs. With that said, the tablet's main camera could have an 8-megapixel resolution, while the front or selfie camera will have 1.2 megapixels only.

Many are also hoping that the entry level for the Mini 5 will have a storage capacity of 32 GB, instead of 16 GB. Other variants include 64 GB and 128 GB of iPad Mini 5 units. Although this could be an interesting set of specs and features, Apple has yet to confirm about the new iPad Mini 5 and until then, everything should be treated only as rumors.
