iPad Pro 2 release date: Spring 2017 may be the time the new tablets are launched

(Apple)The follow-up to the iPad Pro (shown), the rumored iPad Pro 2, is expected to arrive next year

Unless something completely unexpected takes place between now and Dec. 31, the rest of 2016 is expected to pass without the eagerly anticipated iPad Pro 2 making an appearance, but folks waiting for the next generation tablet reportedly have no reason to worry, as they may still be set to see this new device very soon.

According to a recent report from Mac Otakara, the wait for the Apple tablets may have to last for only a few months more.

Specifically, the website reported that the next generation Apple tablets may officially make their debuts in the spring.

Notably, an earlier report from Bloomberg that touched on what's happening with a variety of Apple products also indicated that upgraded features for iPads may be coming in the first half of next year.

While nothing is obviously official just yet, that recent reports have hinted that something could be in the works for early 2017 is most likely a good sign for those hoping to see an iPad Pro 2 sooner rather than later.

Rumors have also hinted that the iPad Pro lineup may be expanding next year.

Currently, iPad Pros come with either 9.7 or 12.9-inch displays, but once the next generation devices are introduced, a third tablet variant may be made available to potential buyers.

The aforementioned Mac Otakara report noted that the 12.9-inch variant may return, while the 9.7-inch model may be replaced by a slightly larger 10.1-inch tablet. The third tablet variant may be on the smaller side, and it may end up sporting a 7.9-inch display.

And for those wondering, unlike the recently released set of iPhones, the new iPad Pros are still currently expected to continue featuring headphone jacks.

More details about the iPad Pro 2 variants and their other possible specs and features should be made available in the near future.
